What are the main Dubai airports, and how do I get from them to central Dubai?

Dubai has two major international airports. These are Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). Both offer a number of transportation options to get into central Dubai.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is located only 3 miles from the city centre, making it super quick and easy to get into the heart of Dubai. The airport has two metro stations and trains run frequently from Terminals 1 and 3. You can also go for the budget option of a local bus. Or if you're in a rush, there are taxis available too.

Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), otherwise referred to as Dubai World Central, is located a bit further from the city, about 23 miles southwest of Dubai. There are no direct transport options to the airport, although you can reach it using a combination of public bus and the metro.

Dubai is known for being a hot desert destination, so it’s no surprise that when you visit it’ll basically be either hot or even hotter. Winter in Dubai starts from around November until April and temperatures tend to be a lot cooler during these months, making it easier to explore all that Dubai has to offer. If you do visit between April and October brace yourselves for some pretty warm weather. Highs can be above 100 degrees for months, so outdoor exploring can be a hot and sweaty endeavor!

There are some great festivals and events taking place in Dubai each year though that you may want to schedule your trip around. These include the Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai International Jazz Festival, the Dubai Marathon, the Festival of Taste, ArtDubai and the National Day Festival.

For those thinking of studying in Dubai, you have more than 65 colleges and universities to choose from, plus a lot of student facilities courtesy of the Dubai International Academic City. This is a dedicated free trade zone for academic institutions. Classes based on US curriculums are taught in English, but students not of Arab heritage must take Arabic language classes, as there is an emphasis on the fact that English is a second language when it comes to teaching.

Dubai’s lifestyle and cultures may be very different to what you experience in Canada and must be respected while travelling. In terms of a language barrier, much to many traveller's surprises, you shouldn't have any problems. Although Arabic is the language of the United Arab Emirates, English is the most widely spoken language in Dubai. The most important thing to note is that the UAE is a Muslim country, so the laws and customs will be different to those in Canada. Please respect traditions, customs, religion and the law at all times while visiting and be aware that these (and the penalties) will be different than back home. However, in general, Dubai is a pretty modern and tolerant city, so it's quite welcoming of international travellers.
