Everything you need to know about Dublin

Dublin airport: The Dublin Airport (DUB) is located close to the city center, so it’s easy to get from the airport to the downtown area. One of the easiest ways to get downtown is to take the Airlink Express bus. Tickets are €7 (about $8 USD) from the ticket machines at the airport, but you can get a small discount if you purchase your tickets online in advance. Once you’re on the Airlink, it’s easy to connect with downtown trains and trams. Of course, you can also rent bikes or walk! If you’re going to be hopping back and forth across town, you might want to get a Leap Card to ride on the trams. Just add money to the card and tap before boarding.

Dublin hotels: When you’re looking for a place to crash for the night, there are lots of great budget options to save you some cash while keeping you close to the best of the city. Get the best deal when you stay at a hostel in Dublin: check out the Generator Dublin or Isaacs Hostel for super fun and unique places to stay. Hostels are a great way to get a feel for the local culture and meet other travelers. If you’re looking for a private room, you can usually book private rooms at hostels too, or you can spring for a hotel. The Belvedere Hotel in Parnell Square is right in the heart of Dublin and still is a good budget option. The Clarence is located right on the River Liffey, within walking distance of the famous Ha’Penny Bridge, Dublin Castle and Temple Bar. Things to do in Dublin: There are so many things to do in Dublin, it’s hard to even know where to start! Of course, there’s some things you just can’t miss: the Dublin Castle, built in 1204, is one of the most famous symbols of Ireland. Go be inspired (or get some studying done) in the Trinity College library. History lovers, rejoice: the National Museum of Ireland has tons of Viking exhibits and also, bog men. Plus, it’s free! If you’re ready to get out of town for a bit, head to the Wicklow mountains or the Cliffs of Moher. Recognize the Cliffs of Moher? They’ve been in quite a few movies. Of course, you can’t miss out on tasting some of Dublin’s favorite drinks. Once you’ve been to the Guinness Storehouse, check out Temple Bar, one of the most famous in Ireland. Still thirsty? The Whiskey Museum offers tours and tastings with student discounts! Score.

Dublin weather: Dublin has cool and rainy, yet consistent, weather. It rarely gets above 70° or drops below 30°. The warmest months in Dublin are, of course, July and August. However, August is one of Dublin’s rainiest months. The best time to visit Dublin is May or July, which tend to have the warmest days with the least rain. Like you might expect though, Dublin is quite rainy year-round. Be sure you bring an umbrella and a raincoat, no matter when you visit. The most popular times to visit Dublin are St. Patrick’s Day (of course) and during July. If you want a quieter experience, try May, September or October. Keep in mind that many sights and hotels close or run on limited hours in the winter.
