Phoenix is a city as interesting as they come, with equal parts culture, history, natural wonders and cacti. This Arizonan city has a surprisingly rich arts scene with a multitude of museums, galleries and theaters to soak in some of the culture Phoenix has to offer. Similarly, Phoenix’s history is well documented with various museums and landmarks—many of which highlight Native American history. The natural beauty of Phoenix is probably the biggest draw for tourists. So if you don’t like a good hike in occasionally sweltering heat, shockingly, this may not be the place for you. But if you want to see a cactus in a desert, Phoenix is definitely your spot. It’s rare for such a sprawling city to be so near to desert beauty and striking red rock formations.

The sun always shines in Phoenix—literally! Statistically, the sun directly shines more often on Phoenix than any other major US city. If you need a place to escape some winter (or spring or autumn) snow, Phoenix is a good go-to. It’s the Valley of the Sun, so bring your sunscreen. Drink water. And worship air conditioning. In all seriousness, Phoenix is one of the most unique cities in the US and is sure to impress all visitors.
