Flights - Book, Change, or Cancel

  • How do I change or cancel my flight ticket due to COVID-19 / Coronavirus?

Please see our Contact Us page for info specific to COVID-19 / Coronavirus.

  • How do I change or cancel my flight ticket?

    Changes:

Most airline tickets do allow changes for a fee, plus any difference in fare. Change rules and fees can vary tremendously. To find the change rules for your flight ticket, look under the My Trips section of your account. Change penalties will be listed underneath your itinerary under 'Change & Cancel.' To find out if there is a fare difference for the change you are looking to make, please contact us by phone. Airlines generally do not allow changes to your routing or name changes.

    Cancellations:

If you wish to cancel your flight ticket, you must contact us by phone in advance of your flight boarding. If you do not, for any reason, any refundable amounts will be forfeited to the airline. You can view any fees associated with canceling your ticket under the My Trips section of your account.

If you do not check-in on time or cancel your flights prior to departure, the airline can cancel out your flight and any subsequent flights, and prohibit any changes or refunds.

If you do not fly on the departure portion of your reservation, you will lose the full value of your ticket(s). Do not book a roundtrip flight only to use the return portion.

If you are traveling internationally on a roundtrip or one-way ticket, some countries have additional passport/visa requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the proper visas/documents. Failure to have documentation may result in denied boarding or denied entry and you will lose the full value of your ticket(s).

  • What if I want to fly with a friend?

This is very common, and is easy to do.

If you can pay with the same credit card, book together by searching for more than 1 person, and following the steps in the checkout process. You will need to know the legal name and date of birth of your friend(s).

If you want to pay separately, you will need to make multiple purchases. Make sure there are enough seats remaining for your party and let everyone go through the checkout process.

To ensure you are seated next to each other you can either contact us via email or phone. When emailing us, make sure you include the PNR / Name / invoice numbers of everyone in your party.

  • What if my traveling companion is not a student?

You can still book with StudentUniverse.

We offer more than just airfare for students; we offer fares for Youth (ages 16-25), Faculty and airfare for everyone else. Search for the total number in your party and log in (or Sign up) as yourself. You will need to input your traveling companions' details before entering your credit card information. The airline will determine eligibility requirements for your companion prior to your purchase. We will message those requirements to you (if there are any) prior to you making any purchase.

  • How do I buy student flights for someone else?

This is very common, and easy to do.

If you are booking a flight for someone else, you need to sign up with the travelers information as the airline ticket will be issued in the name of that person. You will need to have their legal name as it appears on their ID and their date of birth.

Airlines are very strict on name changes once the ticket is issued, so please be careful if you're booking a flight for anyone but yourself.

The name on the credit card can be different than the name of the traveler.

  • Why can I not see the details of all flights?

Sometimes airlines provide us with fares they do not want displayed to the general public.

To view and book these flights you must be logged in and a confirmed member of StudentUniverse. Log in (or join) to see if you are eligible.

  • Why can't I find an advertised student airfare?

For any fare we advertise, we first check to make sure there are some available seats. However, sometimes the deal may not be available for all dates or to/from all airports. All terms & conditions of fares we advertise are noted at the bottom of the ad and should assist you in finding the price you're looking for.

  • Can I use someone else's credit card to purchase student flights?

Yes! This is very common, just make sure you have the card holder's permission!

When you Log in or Sign up, ensure you do so with the traveler's info. On the checkout page you can enter the details of the card you will be using. You will need to have the card number, expiration date, CCV (3 or 4 digit security code), name as it appears on the credit card and the billing address.

  • Can I use a non-US or Canadian credit or debit card?

Yes! The cards that we accept may vary based on the supplier (some airlines don't accept certain cards as payment options). However, you can use a debit or credit card with a billing address outside the United States and Canada for all purchases. The currency your card will be charged in will be noted at time of checkout (in Canada, the vast majority of what you purchase is charged in CAD).

  • What is a promo code?

Sometimes we and/or our partners are able to offer promotion codes that will give you an even better deal on your flight. The active codes can always be found on our Promo Codes Page. Have a look and see if there is one that works for you!

To use your promo code, enter it in the space provided on our checkout page. You will be given immediate feedback on whether the code worked and if not, why.

Our agents cannot enter these codes once an order has been placed online.

  • What if I'm having technical difficulties?

Please contact us by phone if you are having technical difficulties on our site. We will ask you for details about your experience to forward to our technical support team. Your help in finding any issue that our QA team missed would be greatly appreciated (and is usually rewarded).

  • Can I earn frequent flyer miles with a StudentUniverse Student/Youth ticket?

Maybe. Some airlines permit accrual of frequent flyer points/miles for our Student/Youth plane tickets, and others do not. Please see the chart below to see if your flight is eligible for these rewards. This table is for informational purposes only. While we will make every attempt to keep this information up to date, we will not assume any responsibility for its accuracy as airlines reserve the right to make changes to their frequent flyer program without advance notice.

If your flight is eligible to receive frequent flyer rewards, you can make sure you get proper credit in one of two ways. When you check in at the airport gate, make sure you give the airline agent your frequent flyer information, or you can call the airline directly to make sure they have your frequent flyer information in your flight record. See the chart above for the best number to call.

  • Do you have better flight specials available by phone?

Maybe. Most of our deals are available to be purchased online. There are a few exceptions that must be booked on the phone with our agents. If your search has some of these special fares available it will be messaged in the search results.

Additionally, a small number of itineraries do need to be booked via an agent. These include:

    • Booking a flight for same day travel
    • Stopovers
    • Itineraries with more than 2 destinations

In these instances, you would need to contact us for help completing your booking

  • Do you offer a price guarantee for flights?

No. StudentUniverse does not guarantee that the prices of student plane tickets found on this website are the most competitive in the market. We attempt to present the best airfare available in the market, but sometimes (unfortunately) we don't win.

We also do not offer any compensation if another customer books the same itinerary as you at a lower price. Airlines can change the price of airfare very frequently based on a multitude of factors. Generally speaking, its better to book sooner rather than later if you know you need to be somewhere. If you are not finding a price point that works for you, continue to check to see if something becomes available.

  • Can I book a stopover?

Yes! If you would like to book a stopover for your flight, you will need to contact us directly to speak with an agent.

If you are not familiar with a stopover, it is when you are traveling from one destination to another, and stopping along the way (or the way back) in another city. Stopovers are common when you travel long distances, say from Toronto to Sydney, but stop for a couple of days in Auckland. Airlines allow this for international travel, but do not allow it for travel solely within Canada or the U.S.
